Aham told the reporter that she learned embroidery from her mother when she was a child, but it was not until 2007, when the local government provided her with financial aid of 10,000 yuan (US$ 1,570), that she got a chance to start her own business. At first, she employed four local Kazakh women and sold the embroidery pieces mostly to tourists. Growth of sales enabled Aham to expand her business in 2009 with the help of the local government and women's federation.

Her pieces have made a name for themselves in the domestic and international market, with a growing popularity in countries such as Turkey, Uzbekistan and Russia. Aham also revealed that she will attend the China-Euroasia Expo in the region's capital of Urumqi, on September 1, 2012.

Aham said that the original focus of her business was not on profit, but on helping the local Kazakh women boost their incomes by utilizing their skills.

"My husband and I both have pensions that are sufficient for our living expenses," Aham said. "All I want to do is to help local women, especially those who have been laid-off, to make some extra money. I think my plan has worked."
